  From Tradition to Troubles: Evaluating the Consumption of Opium as Social Practice in Western Rajasthan

  Drug consumption is not always associated solely with pleasure or intoxication; it can originate as a customary practice and evolve into a societal tradition over successive generations. In Rajasthan, particularly in its western region, drug consumption initially emerged as a commemorative practice during social gatherings, occasions, and celebrations. However, this practice has gradually transformed into a compulsory addictive issue, posing concerns for individuals and society as a whole. In this context, a case study of the prevalence of consumption of opium as part of social customs in Rajasthan is dealt.
